Hey There Holy Black Girls!!

What does one do when they FINALLY finish school, specifically a Ph. D. program??? They blog about how much they miss it LMAO! Not really. I am full of creative ideas and opinions on all things. So rather than wear my social media followers out with my need to be prolific, analytical, controversial, and conflicted I decided to start this blog.

I'm excited about this blog because I believe it will be helpful for me in continuing the work I started in my dissertation. Also, it will allow me an avenue to start some ideas in hopes of developing them for a longer book project.

I have so much I want to share about myself and the world around us. This is for the everyday Black girl who knows she is at her best when she is able to be herself. I use my bandbae's, THEE Dr. Ruth Nicole Brown (one of the best teachers on this side of heaven to ever do it), framework to think about Black girls. In her book Black Girlhood Celebration (2009) (which you ABSOLUTELY need in your life) she introduces Black girlhood as an organizing construct. This means that Black girlhood is not dependent on biological girl, rather Black girlhood is about the experiences of being and becoming in a body marked as young, Black, and beautiful (p. 1). So basically the things you will read here will have Black girls and Black girlhood at the center even when they are not explicitly mentioned.

I'm new to this so bear with me. I'll try to keep it simple and not filled with too much jargon. I'm smart, but my rule of thumb is that my family and friends have to be able to enjoy this too! :)

Xo,

Dr. PRG
